Martin Neukom Studien 5-7

"Studien 5-7" was realized between 1992 and 1996 using the sound synthesis language Csound and an Atari ST. Only synthesized sound was used. All pieces (except "Studie 5.1") are noise and sound studies. Continuous white noise is partly transformed into harsh granular noise. Feedback systems and non-linear filters are used to transpose short stimulating signals to various frequency ranges and distort them, thus generating a broad spectrum of sounds ranging from continuous colourful noise through rumbling, crackling and sizzling sounds to almost pure tones. The continuous sound effects are constantly interrupted by sudden changes. Control circuits ensure that the vibrations are maintained and that the systems remain stable.
